When the DVD of the film 28 Days Later was released, there were three alternative endings. Only two were filmed and the third was depicted using story boards. In each ending the main character Jim dies.

Jim dies at hospital: In the ending after Jim gets shot, Selena and Hannah still rush him to the deserted hospital, but it is here that the scene is extended. Selena and Hannah try desperately to save Jim but cannot revive him. They are heartbroken and walk out of the room picking up their guns on the way.

Rescue coda without Jim: This ending which was a rough edit was filmed as an alternate version of the potential rescue sequence. This was after Jim dies, and where Selena and Hannah are seen waving massive banners to a jet flying overhead.

Radical alternative ending: This was only depicted through story boards on the DVD. It didn't get filmed due to the story changing dramatically when the main characters reach Manchester. It talks about how a scientist has the cure and explains that a full blood transfusion can cure an infected person. At this point Jim says that he will give his blood to Frank in order that he can survive along with his daughter.
